Avoiding backflow in appliance supplies

Amos Pumps' 40-litre break tank prevents backflowWater regulation inspectors in many parts of the UK are pressing installers to observe local and national rules about the prevention of backflow. Amos break tanks provide the simple, professional answer. They are ideal to protect washing machine, dish-washer and glass-washer supplies.

They provide compliance to current regulations to ensure that soiled water cannot pass back through supply pipes and contaminate supplies elsewhere - a vital requirement in areas of "Category 5 Risk" such as Dental Surgeries, Medical Surgeries, Funeral Parlours, Mortuaries, Laboratories, Veterinary Surgeries, Abattoirs, Butchers' Shops, Laboratories in Schools or Colleges, Nursing Homes, Residential Care Homes, Sheltered Housing, Hospitals, Farms, Research and Development Facilities and in other sensitive environments.

The units also maintain adequate pressure in the appliance feed, provide a stored water facility (without needing a bulky pressure vessel) and prevent water hammer.

Specification
The unit includes a hygienic, easy-clean, 40-litre polyethylene tank complete with ½in BSP male ballvalve water inlet and overflow and a quality PM46 pressure-boosting brass pump.

The pump is switched on and off by an automatic, maintenance-free pressure-control device which additionally protects the pump against damage from running dry.

The Amos break tank is easily installed using standard plumbing fittings and techniques and minimal tools. It requires a normal 240V, 50Hz, 1Ph power supply, and is dispatched with full installation, commissioning and maintenance instructions.

Eliminate contamination risk

The Amos break tank is controlled by an automatic device which maintains a constant pressure of 1.5 bar in the supply line. When an appliance calls for water, the resulting pressure drop causes the device to switch the pump on; when demand ceases, the pump is switched off. There are no repeated start-stop cycles during flow periods.
